I. Three yearsago on the last day of january, I had a big problem. I can’t forget this dayforever. The story began when my uncle, my cousin, and I went to the desert. Myuncle was the oldest at 72 years old, but he was still strong. My cousin atthat time was 10 years old, and I was 25 years old. All of us liked hunting.Usually we went hunting on the weekend, especially in winter, because winter isthe hunting season. On the 25th of January, we decided to gohunting. All things were ready in the car, a Range Rover with four – wheeldrive. We reached the place we were looking for at 5:15 PM. First, we fixed thetent, then we made coffee and hea a few minutes of rest. After that, we left togo on the hunt. We hunted using a falcon. Often, we hunt birds and rabbits. Wespent two hours without finding anything. We decided to go back to the camp. Onour way back, my cousin saw a rabbit. He cried, “Raibbit!! Raibbit!!Quick” Itook the falcon’s head cover and flung it off aggressvely. When the rabbit sawthe falcon, it ran fast, but my falcon was a professional hunterr. He flew upand came down to trick the rabbit. After two minutes, the rabbit was caught. Weate the delicious food, drank Arabic coffee, and sat aroud the fire talkinguntl 10.30 P.M. Then we went to bed. We left camp the next day at 7 o’clock inthe morning. We went north and found two kinds of birds and caught them. However, we faced trouble at 10.00A.M. because the car got stuck in the sand!We spent about three hours trying to pull out the car without any progress. Finally, we decided to wald. I talked with my uncle about how hard it is for anold man or a young boy to walk mere than 40km, in ther desert. He agreed withme. So I took a bottle of weter with me and started to walk south alone. I knewthe way well, but it was a long way in the sand. I walked more than four hourswithout stopping. I felt tired and thirsty. I drank all the water wich was inthe bottle. I stopped to rest, sleeping around two hours. When I got up,darkness had covered the area. “What should I do?” I asked myself. I continuedto walk south. I was worried about my uncle and sousin, and they were worriedabout me also. Suddenly, I met a bedouin man who was riding his camel. He tookme to his house. When I had had enough rest, I asked him to take me to the roadand he did. After the, I found a car which took me to the city to get help. Ihad one day to get back to my uncle and cousin. When I got back to them, theywere so happy because I had gotten help and they were able to see me again.Eventually, I learned a lesson from this story, which was that the desert isvery dangerous. Next time, when we go hunting, we must go in groups with two ormore cars. If we go together, we can keep each other safe. We know the desertis dangerous, but we will never quit hunting.

III. Havingreached the highest point of our route according to plan, we discoveredsomething the map had not told us. It was impossible to climb down into the Kingo valley. The riverlay deepbetween mountain sides that were almost vertical. We couldn’t find any animaltracks, which asually show the best way across country, and the slopes werecovered so thickly with bushes that we could not see the nature of the ground. We had somehow to break through to the rirver which would give us our directionout of the mountains into the inhabited lowlands. Our guide cut a narrow paththrough the bushes with his long knife and we followed in single file. Progresswas slow. Then, When we thought we had really reached the river, we forndourselves instead on the adge of a cliff with a straight drop of 1,000 feed tothe water belew. We climbed back up the slope and began to look for another waydown. We climbed, slipped, sweated and scratched our hands to pieces andfinally arrived at the river. Happily we strode downhill along its bank withouthaving to cut our way. However, after a few miles the river entered a steep –sided gap beween rocks and suddenly propped thirty – five feet over awaterfall. There was no path alongside it and no way round it. Then one of theguides saw a way of overcoming the difficulty. There was a fallen tree lyingupside down over the waterfall with its leafy top resting on the opposite bankbelow the falls. Without hesitation he climbed down the slipperty trunk to showus how easy it was. Having got to the fork of the tree, he moved hand over handalong a branch for four or five feet with his legs hanging in space, then hedropped onto the flat bank the other side, throwing his arms in the air like afootbller who has scored a goal, and cheerfully waving us on

It’s easier to identify because of its smaller ears. Most circuselephants are Indian elephants. Another name for the Indian elephants areIndian elephants. Unfortunately, there is a growing conflict between elephantsand humans as more of the elephants habitat is developed. Elephants can destroythe crops of an entire village in a single night, and this also causes conflict. At the moment, there are about 600,000 elephants remaining in Africa. The greatest threat to elephants is the ivory trade. Most commercial ivorycomes from elephant’s tusks. From 1979 to 1989 was a bad time for Africanelephants. About 70,000 wild elephants were killed for ivory each year. In 1989an international treaty limited the trade in ivory, decreasing the number orelephants killed, but elephants are still being killed for ivory. Please don’tever buy anything made from ivory!

V. Our demandfor water is constantly in creasing. Every year there are more and more peoplein the world. Faconries turn out more and more products and need more and morewater. We line in a world of water. But almost all of it – about 97% - is inthe oceans. This water is too salty to be used for drinking, farming, andmanufacturing. Only about 3% of the world’s water is fresh. Most of this wateris not easily available to man because it is locked in glaciers and icecaps. There is as much water on earth today as there ever or will ever be. Most ofthe water we use finds its way to the oceans. There, it is evaporated by thesun. It then falls back to the earth as rain. Water is used and reused over andover again. Is is never used up.

Now elephantsare protected by special laws. There are two kinds of elephants: the Africanelephant and the Indian elephant. Afrrican elephants can be identified by thelarger ears. The African elephant grows up to 10 feet tall and weighs as muchas 12,000 pounds. The Indian elephant grows up to 9 feet tall, and weighs up to8000 pounds. Although the world as a whole has plenty offresh water, some regions have a water shortage. Some regions are always toodry, and others too wet. A region that usually gets enough rain may suddenlyhave a serious dry spell and another region may be flooded with too muchrain.
